Welcome to my site! The son of a sign painter/artist my professional schooling began at a young age, while working with my father in his sign
shop I had all the supplies I needed to pursue my art. From my father I learned allot of the tricks of design and spacing
as well as some techniques such as serigraphy and gold leafing that I still use today. From my mother I received an abundance
of love, imagination, encouragement and support. After graduating from high school I decided to continue my education through travel and living. My travels have taken me
as far north as Anchorage Alaska (where the aurora borealis and the midnight sun kept me for three months) to as far south
as Morelia, Michoacán in Mexico where I lived for year studying mural painting, sculpture and Spanish and getting to know
the people and their culture by working and living with them. I love Mexico and have been back to visit for work and pleasure
a half a dozen times since. After a year in Mexico I returned to Washington to complete my studies and in 1982 received a
Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from Central Washington University in Ellensburg, WA. Since graduating I have continued my art
studies, language and other cultures through my travels. Professionally my career took another direction into social services
where I work primarily with children and adults who were victims of abuse and neglect or with developmental disabilities.
Currently I live in Chico California after moving here from South Kihei on Maui with life partner of fifteen years Ray.
I was an active member of the Lahaina Arts Society as well as the Hui No'eau visual arts center in Makawao. I enjoy hiking
the back hills and valleys of Maui in search of it's history and stories. Art has always been my focus in life and I consider it my first language. For this reason I have always been reluctant
to title my pieces as I don't wish to influence the viewers own interpretation of the image. Art should speak for itself to
that individual on a more personal level than words. My images come from stories, legends, mythology, and also from my own
beliefs thoughts and personal observations of the world around me. I have shown my work in galleries, museums and on public display throughout the northwest and have been in several one
man and group shows in the United States, Mexico and Japan. I have shared my love of Art by volunteering as an artist in public
schools teaching drawing, printmaking and sculpture to children of all ages. About my Art |
